I've had this feeling of dread for a while and I think it's finally overtaken me. We're falling apart and I don't think we can hold it together. The rookies are getting tired/losing their rookie magic. The rotation is falling apart and our endless rookie options aren't going to be enough to patch things forever. Who knows how much longer Quintana and sale are going to go before they get gassed. The Tigers are hot as hell and will surely add a big piece at the deadline. I think we're crumbling.

Damn this is dramatic. I'm worried too, but we've split so far at Fenway with Axelrod and Humber starting. If we can split the next two with Quintana going Thursday, we have Sale and Peavy pitching the first two against Detroit. Floyd may only miss one more start after this one as he went on the DL retroactive to July 8th.

The bullpen is worrisome, but if Crain comes back strong, I like our chances. Rookies with stellar stuff like Reed and Jones are just going through growing pains and will be fine imo. Outside of Reed-Jones-Thornton-Crain, we may have to experiment. I like Omogrosso so far, but I doubt Septimo will be on the roster much longer.

Quintana can eat innings, has pinpoint control, and his stuff is what it is. He's not going to have a 2 ERA forever. The scouting report is gonna be out on him, especially to our division foes, but at worst I think he is a #3-type starter with an ERA in the upper 3's.

The more I watch Sale pitch the less worried I am about him running out of gas. He throws 110 pitches a game and is still touching 93-95 mph at that point. All the talk of his funky delivery may have been overblown.

Humber's return was super encouraging. If Gavin can come back quickly, we likely don't need to do this, unless we forsee a Sale shutdown/move to the bullpen for a while.

Gavin just has inflammation and going to get some rest. Axelrod's two last outings were stellar and recently Danks threw long toss and was surprised he had no pain. Humber looked great in his come back start. Jessie Crain is coming back soon.

Agreed. I don't think it's time for panic. The rookies in the rotation have held serve so far. Pitchers go through dead arm phases every year because it is such a grind for 162. It might work to our advantage down the stretch that a couple of our veteran starters have taken a seat for a little while in the middle of the season. Obviously I'd prefer that they not be hurt, but the fact that the young kids have kept the Sox in first place while guys have been hurt should be really encouraging I think, not discouraging.

White Sox may be doing just that . . . rumor of attempt to reacquire Clayton Richard.

Yeah, I'm not really sure if I'm a huge fan of this idea, unless it doesn't cost us a whole lot. CR has already matched his career high in HR allowed this year, and that's playing in Petco....

Yeah, that's what I told another buddy. NL in Petco. I liked Richard when he was here and he's a bit attractive to me just because we know he'll last the season and not get tired, but I wouldn't want to give up a whole lot for him.

Too bad he couldn't start Sunday against the Tigers, who he does very well against. I'd say it good news that we can get Axelrod out of the rotation and replace him with a vet who, hopefully, can be decent to great again.
